(Sponsored by National Security Education Program)
The ISU College of Agriculture and Penn State University (PSU) are offering a program to develop the capacity of agriculture students in Ukrainian language and culture.
There are three parts to this program:
1. A pre-trip Ukrainian history and culture course offered by Penn State via the web during summer session 2003. This part is encouraged but not required for participation in the spring semester 2004 exchange. This on-line course will acquaint students with Ukrainian history and culture from the origins of Kyivan Rus in the Middle Ages to the present. The course will examine the many facets that make up culture: history, politics, language, literature, folklore, religion, music, and art. Lectures and readings will all be in English. More information about the course and how to sign up can be found under the link Ukrainian Culture On-line Course at the bottom of this page.
2. A pre-trip Ukrainian language course offered by PSU via web/streaming video during fall semester 2003. This course is an introduction to the language and agricultural-specific terminology and will prepare students for a semester-long program to continue advanced language study and agricultural subjects. This part is required for participation in the spring semester exchange.
3. A semester abroad (Spring 2004) at Lviv State Agricultural University where students will take classes from US professors.
